Walaa Tout is known for helping her peers.
But that’s just one reason she is a “Difference Maker.”
Walaa takes the time to connect with each student she serves as a supplemental instructor (SI) for. Many even reach out to her for help, regardless of the question.
“Walaa is a bright student, an exceptional student leader and has extraordinary dedication towards helping people,” said Debalina Bandyopadhyay, director of pre-health advising and the Science Learning Center. “Students and professors with whom she has worked have consistently provided rave reviews about the quality, consistency, and helpfulness of her work.”
Walaa’s commitment to helping others extends far beyond UM-Dearborn.
“I run a youth mentoring network at my local mosque,” Walaa said. “This program puts young Muslim girls into groups that are mentored by college-aged women who plan engaging activities. When you see them develop through the program, you can really see you’re making a difference.”
Walaa strives to continue to grow personally and to positively impact those around her, no matter where her life and career take her.
“I am very passionate about supporting student engagement and academic success,” Walaa said. “I do my best to treat others with the kindness and encouragement that countless people have given me throughout my life.”
