Devon Banks, a graduate of the School of Education, headed back to class. With several years of teaching experience behind him, he decided to work toward a master’s degree in educational leadership. He dreams of becoming a school principal, assistant principal or athletic director.
Chances are good that he will succeed, according to his instructors.
A former UM-Dearborn basketball player, he was honored by the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield, Michigan, for his tireless efforts to coach youth athletic teams during his evenings and weekends. He also teaches at a local elementary school while attending classes of his own.
“Devon combines his love of athletics with his passion for education,” says Bonnie Beyer, an instructor in the SOE.
Devon enjoys coaching “because it allows me to teach the young men and women to be persons of pride, dignity, respect and accountability. “
Adds Devon, “It gives me great satisfaction to see many of my players change for the better, with respect to skills, habits of mind and character.”
