As former president of UM-Dearborn’s Student Government, Hussein Berry worked tirelessly throughout the academic year to engage students academically, culturally and civically. Under his leadership, the organization reached out to the greater metropolitan area and worked closely with non-profits such as HYPE Athletics, New Detroit and AmeriCorps VISTA.
Hussein's involved in many other campus organizations, and holds leadership positions in the Arab Student Union, Pre-Students Osteopathic Medical Association and Students United for Peace and Justice. While he serves as president of the American Red Cross Club he facilitated five blood drives on campus, four of which set a precedent for the number of donors. He also helped raise $1,700 for Haiti earthquake relief efforts.
Hussein is just as busy off campus. He is a board member of Lebanese International Business Council and HYPE Athletics, and former member and volunteer for the Arab American Political Action Committee and ACCESS. He’s also a football and track coach at Dearborn High School.
His ultimate goal is to earn degrees in both law and medicine.
“He has the drive, passion, energy and excitement which makes him an excellent candidate for a Difference Maker,” says Jonathan Larson, of UM-Dearborn’s student activities office. “He has not stopped amazing me, through his dedication, collaboration and team building efforts with student as well as administrators.”
