What makes you a Difference Maker?
What makes me a Difference Marker is that I do more than just go to class; I get involved on campus and help students. Throughout the past four years, I’ve joined the executive board of two student organizations, held two internships and taken courses full time. Having the opportunity to implement what I’ve learned from class and my internships to impact others has been very fulfilling. Whether it’s connecting students with employers, helping critique resumes or providing interview tips, I’ve always been able to support students in their career growth. Along with helping students, I’ve successfully implemented various recruitment events for College of Business student organizations to bring awareness to new students.
Highlight your campus achievements:
Throughout my time at UM-Dearborn, I worked hard to maintain a high standing. I’ve been named on the Dean's List all seven semesters, awarded the William J. Branstorm Freshman Prize, James B. Angell Scholar, Honors Scholar and Dean’s Scholar. I was also inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma my junior year.
I also received a scholarship from the College of Business based on exemplary academic accomplishments and the Hillary Kind Memorial Scholarship based on academic excellence and leadership experience.
I started as a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) in 2014 and held the position of vice president of recruitment for the past two years. I became a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in 2016 and was elected president in October 2016, and now I’m currently the vice president of professional development.
Highlight your leadership experiences both on and off campus:
I started as a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) in 2014 and held the position as vp of recruitment for the past two years. As the vice president of recruitment, I’ve helped the organization develop a recruitment, recognition and retention plan that has helped the organization achieve "The Outstanding Membership" award at our National Conference.
I became a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in 2016 and was elected president in October 2016, and now I'm currently the vice president of professional development. Through my various positions, I’ve helped the organization maintain membership through consistent bi-weekly meetings, created professional development events and partnered with student organizations to achieve SHRM's goals.
What is your dream career and/or long term life goal?
By majoring in human resource management, I’ve had the passion and drive to maintain a career in the human resource field. Throughout my courses and internships, I’ve gained interest in how an organization attracts and maintains top talent.
My dream career would be to incorporate my interests and passions into a role as the vice president of human resources for a small public corporation. I would achieve my dream career by going back to school and receiving a master’s in business administration and building relationships with those who can help me advance to my next opportunity.
What was your most defining moment at UM-Dearborn?
My most defining moment at UM-Dearborn was receiving an email stating I was recognized as an Honors Scholar for the human resource management major at the College of Business. Honors Scholar is awarded to only one student per major based on grade point average standing. This is my defining moment because it showed me that my hard work and dedication finally paid off. Even though I’ve been very involved on campus and at my internships, I still made time to make academics my priority and committed to maintaining a high standard for myself. This achievement showed me that I can do anything I set my mind to.
