Amanda truly represents an “active” UM-Dearborn student and community member in many ways. On campus, she's been a University Center Ambassador, as well as a former Orientation Leader. She's also spent time as the evening event programmer with the Student Activities Board, volunteer of the annual MLK Day of Service, and a School of Education MyStory Feature Student. In the community, she is a high school tennis coach at Allen Park High School and a tennis instructor at Grosse Ile Tennis Center. She is also very involved in her church—most recently, volunteering at Friday fish fries. Every year, she adopts a family for Christmas and buys gifts for under their tree. She also bakes for ChristNet with her family. Amanda volunteers for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life on the Team Development Committee and has a team with her friends called "Just Walk It!"
Amanda hopes that her campus involvement has helped make UM-Dearborn a comfortable and welcoming place for faculty, students, and visitors. She also strives to provide a positive role model for the many young people she mentors through her coaching work.
