Anton Barnes knows how to make his dreams a reality. His ambition stems from his mother’s advice to work hard on a daily basis.

“My mom has had a great influence on every aspect of my life, especially in academics and professionally,” Anton said. “I watched her get up tirelessly to work three jobs to take care of our household. Her work ethic has inspired me to work hard and push myself beyond my personal limits.”

Anton makes a difference on campus through his involvement in numerous student organizations.

“Anton worked tirelessly to re-establish the Nu Upsilon chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi at UM-Dearborn,” said Kristen McDonough, Greek Life coordinator. “This was no small endeavor, as 20 years have passed since the last initiate on our campus. Anton was quick to build the necessary relationships and educate himself on the often-daunting list of requirements. The chapter’s renewed presence on our campus is a prime example that Anton’s drive and commitment to achieve all that he sets his mind to is unparalleled.”

Off campus, Anton networks with business professionals in the Detroit area and builds upon his own real estate development company. He also finds time to volunteer with different nonprofit organizations to educate Detroit youth about financial empowerment and building a strong work ethic.

“I firmly believe that when you set out to help others, others will set out and be put in position to help you,” Anton said. “ I started a nonprofit called Consortium 61, which educates the urban community on financial empowerment. I also launched my own real estate consulting firm, Anton Barnes & Company, which offers consultation for real estate development projects. People often refer to me as the ‘Young Donald Trump.’ I consider it a compliment, but would rather make a name for myself.”
