Ashley, in her own words
On her inspiration. “Since Environmental Law is such a unique and new field within the world of law, I hope to inspire others who are thinking about going into law and have a passion for the environment to look into this program. This is a way to help your larger community — as well as your hometown — in bridging the gap between people and the law and how you can help your environment more than just activism. If you are thinking about coming to UM-Dearborn, all I have to say is, ‘Come home.’ ”
On her “home” on campus and memorable moments. “My defining moment at UM-Dearborn was my very first tour during Spring Open House in 2018. I was guiding a group of prospective students and their families around campus, explaining the buildings and answering questions. While showing students around, I found myself sharing what I loved about campus naturally. I explained my goals and passions and how this university has the opportunities for me to expand and flourish on my ideas to improve campus and the community around it. After the tour, I had a feeling that cannot be described as anything other than, ‘I'm home.’ I still hold this feeling today and try and help others find their ‘home’ on campus.”
On being a Difference Maker. “I am a Difference Maker because I exemplify the "Dearborn Difference" through leadership, academic success and school spirit. UM-Dearborn was the first campus I visited when touring colleges my senior year in high school. The first impression I received when I visited was so impactful, I knew at that moment I wanted to go here. Now, as a student, I aim to create that lasting first impression that I received for others and have been enabled to do so through many leadership opportunities on campus. I dedicate my time to mentoring new students and work towards more sustainable practices on campus through the student organizations I am in. I love the University of Michigan-Dearborn and I am proud to call myself a Wolverine.”
