Difference Makers
UM-Dearborn Difference Makers are at the forefront of their fields. They’re improving the lives of others and making an impact on campus and in our local communities.
Ashley Klepadlo has one message for young girls: You can succeed.
She especially wants to encourage girls to pursue careers in the STEM fields, science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. And she’s doing whatever she can to get that message to students.
“My primary focus currently is to show girls, by setting an example, that they can succeed in anything, especially STEM fields with my personal emphasis on engineering,” she said. “The activities I participate in and organizations I interact with are all ways to create change. I make a difference with every piece of advice, story and motivational message I share.”
She has organized or made major contributions to numerous outreach activities within the College of Engineering and Computer Science: Alumni Day, the Engineering/Computer Science Experience, the Welcome Back Picnic, Business Etiquette Day, the Society of Women Engineers National Conference, and Adopt-a-Child.
She has presented information to female students at Walled Lake Western High School, local Girl Scout meetings and a Campus Tour for Girls.
“Ashley is a remarkable young woman, energetic and interested in making her mark here at UM-Dearborn as a student and as a contributing member of the community,” said Kathryn Tamborino, College of Engineering and Computer Science outreach coordinator.
Ashley has served as president of the Society of Women Engineers and is a member of the CECS Engineering Organization Council and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. She previously served as a student representative on the CECS Dean Search Committee.
Off campus, Ashley has completed internships with Mills Steel Company as an Engineering Laboratory Intern and Praxair, Incorporated.
