What makes you a Difference Maker?
Believing that I have the choice of being the change the world needs. I’ve always had the passion to be involved in programs, activities and services that are meant to make a change within the individual before the community, because that’s the key to a better and positive world. I like to share my help, my knowledge, my experience and my energy to serve others at any given opportunity, which also teaches me more about myself and the world I’m living in.
Highlight your campus achievements:
I have many community service contributions on and off campus since I started as a full-time student at UM-Dearborn. I’m a member in the Omani Students Association, and an inducted member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. I’m a student ambassador, and a diversity ambassador. I won the 1st place in Elliot Initiative Competition in 2016, and received the Leadership Synergy Certificate. I have different contributions in the fields of science and environment, such as my independent research on the ecological history of the bur oak tree at UM-Dearborn’s Environmental Study Area.
Highlight your leadership experiences both on and off campus:
My leadership experience has been growing through the years. I first started as the promotion team leader at the Omani Students Association. Then, I became an inducted member of the National Engaged Leader Award from the National Society of Leadership and Success, and the coordinator. The Diversity Ambassador program has taught me a lot about leadership, especially as a facilitator at the Conversation on Race events. I represented UM-Dearborn in Oman as an international student ambassador, and was the only UM-Dearborn student at the 2016 WMRUGS Conference in Grand Rapids.
What is your dream career and/or long term life goal?
I have a strong passion for scientific research, especially in the fields of microbiology and environment. My dream career became more clear and wide through completing my academic courses and the other off-campus involvements, such as photography and art. I see myself as an independent scientist and an artist.
What was your most defining moment at UM-Dearborn?
I have many, but most recently, my Chicago NightLight Photo was the cover page of Lyceum journal. It’s been hanging around on campus for over a year. It makes me feel that I’ve left a soft touch on UM-Dearborn’s campus, which will be saved for many years to come.
