Bharat Kotabagi has a lot of ideas for how to improve the UM-Dearborn student experience, particularly for his fellow graduate and international students.
That’s why it was a perfect fit when the Office of Graduate Studies was in need of a new graduate student ambassador to assist with programing ideas from the student perspective. Kotabagi created a Facebook page for the office to share information with both prospective and current graduate students. He helped organize an expanded graduate professional development workshop series. And by bringing in his experience as a Talent Gateway ambassador, helped make the Talent Gateway more accessible to graduate students by writing more than 15 new challenges specifically geared toward graduate students.
“Bharat’s friendly, approachable demeanor, go-getter attitude, and his strong technical and artistic abilities served the office well during his time working with us,” said Director of Graduate Studies Trista Wdziekonski. “He has truly made a difference for many.”
Another way Kotabagi has made a difference is by helping get student shuttle services, used by many international students without access to a vehicle, approved for summer use. This expanded opportunities for many to participate in on-campus activities and events throughout the year.
Kotabagi himself has kept busy on campus through participation in Student Government, Formula SAE and as president of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
