Brittney's Story

Brittney Moore and philanthropy go hand-in-hand.

The University of Michigan-Dearborn student volunteers throughout metropolitan Detroit in hopes of improving her community. Moore also participates in community service initiatives organized through UM-Dearborn.

“Giving back means the world to me and I strive to uplift my surrounding community to reach greater heights, both professionally and educationally,” Brittney said. “I’m just doing what I feel I have been called to do, use my heart for philanthropy to better our campus and my community.”

Brittney’s passion for philanthropy is why she earned the title of “Difference Maker.”

She builds upon her leadership skills as a member of Student Philanthropy Council. There, she organized Tuition Freedom Day, an event in which students thank donors for their financial support. Brittney, a public communications and culture studies minor, utilized her public relations skills by promoting the event across campus.

She also is a member of Black Student Union and worked for The Michigan Journal.

Her impact on UM-Dearborn is substantial.

“Ms. Moore is one of the most dynamic leaders on our campus,” said Ahmad Rahman, associate professor of history, who commended Brittney for her work with Black Student Union. “She has revitalized this organization.”

And as far as Brittney’s philanthropic work, nobody questions her passion.

“I can honestly say that were it not for Brittney, we would not be making such significant progress in changing the culture of philanthropy amongst students on our campus in only one short year,” said Kristin McDonough, development coordinator for Institutional Advancement.

Brittney hopes to someday expand upon her communications skills by working for Apple.

“Steve Jobs has paved new avenues in public relations and it would be an awesome opportunity to learn about their practices on a deeper level,” she said.

Her dream job, however, would be opening a nonprofit mentorship program for children in urban areas.
