Wait for the credits. You might see Derek Juntunen’s name flash across the screen.

The University of Michigan-Dearborn senior spends plenty of time working with Campus Video Network (CVN). Whether he’s writing scripts or editing videos, his passion for film production earned him the title of “Difference Maker.”

“I would love to see my name as one of the key credits in composing a film,” Derek said. “I know these positions are rare and highly valued, but I wouldn’t tell people about my dreams unless I honestly believed I had a chance at achieving them. They’re jobs that take hard work, many years, and luck to attain, but I’m certainly up to the task in the years ahead.”

That drive helped Derek earn a pair of UM-Dearborn writing awards for fiction and poetry. He also was a member of the CVN team that won the 48-Hour Film Festival in the horror category.

“I’ve just tried to come into my student organization every day and go about my business, wanting to push the limits of what Campus Video Network could produce and be,” he said. “I would hope that people have seen the love I have for crafting films and the commitment to testing the bounds of an organization’s capabilities.”

Derek also has helped UM-Dearborn by producing a number of campus videos.

“It is rare, yet fantastic, to see a great student like Derek not only be so involved in his student organization, but to excel when given the chance to collaborate with the University in a professional setting,” said Kristin McDonough, development coordinator for Institutional Advancement. “There are few students at UM-Dearborn who are on the same level as Derek when it comes to dedication to his student organization, the ability to excel in professional settings and his personal artistic abilities, which all combine for an extremely bright future.”
