After stepping in as the Society for Human Resource Management’s president in 2018, Gaadeh Abouarabi made major transformations.
“One of my creative accomplishments was brainstorming new ways to restructure the organization on campus,” said Abouarabi. “I was basically creating an agenda from scratch by inviting a unique set of guest speakers, hosting workshops and coming up with outside-the-box ideas to benefit the group.”
Assistant Professor Junghyun Lee finds Abouarabi’s ability to manage and organize programming for the organization impressive — especially since she also served as director of recruitment for the American Marketing Association at the same time.
“She successfully managed these responsibilities diligently and creatively,” said Lee, noting that SHRM membership increased and the organization became more visible on campus under Abouarabi’s leadership. “She is an extremely responsible and conscientious student with strong execution skills.”
Elsewhere on campus, Abouarabi worked as a talent ambassador for the Talent Gateway and earned the (M)Talent distinction. And off campus, the human resource management and information systems management double-major participated in several human resources-related internships: at Pet Supplies Plus, Creative Minds Consulting and Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber.
Abouarabi, who is interested in a career in human resources following graduation, said UM-Dearborn has been a great place to learn and make a difference. “For me, as I was more involved and connected with more people on campus, I valued more of what it meant to be a UM-Dearborn Wolverine,” she said. “I have pursued many different opportunities, met new people and expanded my comfort zone.”
