Student workers play a crucial role in keeping campus life humming, and Disabilities Services Coordinator Judith Walker considers herself lucky to have someone like Ghadir Haidar pitching in.
“We are an extremely busy office, and we were elated when Ghadir interviewed and chose to work with us,” Walker said. “She is always very respectful, courteous, optimistic — whether it’s helping us stay up to date on all our everyday activities, or serving as a reader and scribe for many students that do not have the use of their own hands or are wheelchair bound. She really is playing a vital role in making our community a fully accessible campus.”
Haidar even brings a similar ethos of giving giving back to her academic life. As a digital marketing major and vice president of the American Marketing Association on campus, she considers herself a go-to resource for students seeking advice about their academic and career goals. To that end, she’s organized numerous events, including a weekend in Chicago where AMA members met with city business leaders; another trip took the group to New Orleans for a national conference.
Looking ahead, she hopes to put her passion for marketing to work in the field of consumer research.
“To me, it’s really interesting to know why people choose certain things to use or buy in their everyday lives,” Haidar said. “But overall, my long-term life goal is just to wake up every morning and be able to say, ‘I love what I am doing.’ And I think my time here at UM-Dearborn — and all the great people I’ve met — will help me achieve any goal I set for the future.”
