Harris Imam will never forget the post-semester email he received from a chemistry student who regularly attended the supplemental study sessions he organized. “She thanked me for all the help I had provided. I had helped her get an A in the course,” he says. “At that moment, I truly felt that I had made an impact on campus.”

Harris has made it his mission to better his community by being active in the healthcare field. He’s encouraged pre-health students to achieve their professional goals via his engagement with UM-Dearborn’s Pre-Professional Health Society (PPHS). In addition to organizing campus visits for medical school representatives and medical school tours for student on behalf of the society, Harris gets lot of face time with real patients at William Beaumont Hospital-Troy as well as Cass Clinic and HUDA Clinic, two free community clinics where he volunteers his time.

Harris plans to attend medical school with the goal of becoming a practicing physician. “Like the physicians I see at HUDA Clinic and Cass Clinic, I want to help serve the underprivileged community,” he says.

One of the great influences in Harris’ academic life is Prof. Mark DeCamp, the PPHS advisor and pre-med advisor. “He has been a great deal of help for me in helping me find the way to my dream career, medicine, and I am grateful for all of his help.”
