Ian's Story

Ian Cartmill is all about improving himself and others around him.

Ian is a member of Phi Sigma Phi, where he has held numerous positions, including sergeant-at-arms, fundraising chair, historian, parliamentarian and ritual master.

Under his leadership, the fraternity and its members won the most awards from its national headquarters, including the David Prueher Most Efficient Chapter Award and 25th Anniversary Harry Parker Phi Sigma Phi Man of the Year Award. Ian personally was the recipient of the 25th Anniversary Dean Rockwell Scholarship.

“Not only was this a defining moment reflecting on all the hard work my team had put in during the previous semester,” he said. “It was matched with the fact that our chapter took home the most awards from our headquarters.”

Last year, Ian was honored with the Greek Award of Distinction for his commitment to academics, integrity, service and community.

“His nominations spoke of his work to improve internal financial processes and accountability, assess and improve programming and motivate his chapter to elevate their philanthropic pursuits,” said Greek Life Coordinator Kristin McDonough.

His drive outside the classroom reflects his excellence inside the classroom. He’s earned a spot on the Dean’s List every semester and has been the recipient of several scholarships, including the Dean’s Recipient Scholarship, Alumni Legacy Scholarship and the General Merit Scholarship.

Ian hopes someday to become a supply chain management director.

“He is an intelligent, pragmatic leader who is also willing to take the appropriate risks necessary to continue growing and achieving,” McDonough said.
