Benjamin's Story
See the Difference I've Made

Upon graduation I began employment at a Tier-1 company, working on a project in an Autonomous Development group.

Benjamin Pollatz is passionate about engineering. He’s committed to getting students involved in the field at a young age.

“Ben has been an enthusiastic and dedicated supporter of engineering education, helping the college reach out to K-12 students on projects and programs that promote STEM education,” said Kathryn Tamborino, outreach coordinator for the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

A robotics and electrical engineering double major, Ben visits Robichaud High School to share his experiences and help students with engineering problems. Currently, he is working on a robotics workshop for the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy.

Ben also is heavily involved on campus. He currently serves as vice president of Tau Beta Pi Honor Society, is a member of Sigma Alpha Phi National Society of Leadership and Success and a student events coordinator for University Union and Events.

He is president of the Intelligent Systems Club (ISC) and recently led his team to victory at the Autonomous Snowplow Competition in St. Paul, Minn.

“Ben has made sure the club is the face of the College of Engineering, both in many of the internal and outreach activities,” said Nattu Natarajan, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering. “He is a great motivator and is constantly thinking of how the club can make a greater impact.”

There’s one thing that could easily be described as Ben’s driving force—his faith. He is an active member of UM-Dearborn’s InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, where he serves as a prayer group leader and a small group Bible study leader.

“Everything I do is for the glory of my creator and savior, Jesus Christ," he said. "By His grace, I am able to be a world changer. If I do something, it is to either better those around me or to enable myself to better those around me.”
