Jasmin's Story

She has been called the backbone of University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Supply Chain Association (SCA). It’s no wonder, considering all Jasmin Shamoun has done to help turn SCA into one of the campus’s most vibrant student organizations.

Jasmin said she hoped to see SCA blossom into an organization that connects students with the types of opportunities future employers would find beneficial.

Mission accomplished.

SCA now offers guest speaker events, plant tours and social outings. Members also have access to supply chain certification materials and case competitions—UM-Dearborn earned “Most Creative Team” honors at its first-ever competition—thanks to increased fundraising events. Jasmin even connects members with internship opportunities and advises students on their career paths.

Need more proof that SCA is thriving? Look no further than the organization’s membership. Jasmin helped increase membership from approximately 12 members to more than 40 by creating new marketing materials and speaking with new students in introductory business courses.

Elsewhere on campus, Jasmin played a lead role in planning the College of Business’s most successful Professional Development Week and used her position in SCA to organize a fundraising event for ConnectUS and Autism Speaks.

“Jasmin is a real leader, both in words and by example,” said Gerald Holowicki, lecturer III in management and SCA faculty adviser. “She has a great passion for making a difference in whatever she gets involved with. With her great energy, she easily inspires others to get involved. She always looks for solutions to issues and is never defeated by problems.”

When she wasn’t busy with SCA, Jasmin also made the most of her academic opportunities. During her time at UM-Dearborn, she completed an internship as a program buyer at Magna Powertrain and studied abroad in Italy—and plans to squeeze in another opportunity at University of Shenzhen (China) before she graduates.

Jasmin said she sees every opportunity as a chance to make a difference.

“I strive for excellence in all aspects of work and put forth a maximum effort in everything that I do,” she said. “This ties in with my favorite quote by Rumi, ‘Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.’”
