Jennifer's Story

Jennifer Forrester is committed – to her studies, her community and her campus.

“Jennifer is truly a leader and one of the best students on our campus,” says Jonathan Larson, from the student activities office. “I work with students every day and cannot think of anyone who reaches her level of commitment to the University. She has gone above and beyond in everything she does.”

That includes tutoring fellow students in physics and geology as a Student Instructor, conducting research with faculty, presenting scholarly papers at national conferences and leading the homecoming celebration committee. A past winner of the Chancellor’s Medallion scholarship, she has also participated on the Student Activities Board and volunteered for the annual Science Olympiad.

She’s also a presence in the community. She devoted her spring breaks to building a Habitat for Humanity home in Battle Creek and participated in two programs on campus that introduced environmental geology to Detroit Public School students.

“Jennifer is a student to watch because of her love for the UM-Dearborn community, her ever-expanding potential to be a beacon in the community, because of her leadership and because of her academic excellence,” says Jacob Napieralski, of the natural sciences department.

IN MY OWN WORDS

"The one thing that I have accomplished at UM-Dearborn that I am most proud of is the research I have done with my classmates on the Lower Branch of the Rouge River. We have worked extremely hard from the start of the project all the way through the data collection and analysis. It's amazing to see what has come of all of our hard work, as well as being given the opportunity to meet and work with some of my classmates."
