Jessica's Story

Jessica Reed has a knack for getting organizations back on track.

As president of the Political Science Association, she has overseen the growth and dynamic functions of the club to make it one of the most visible on campus.

Elsewhere on campus, the University’s Golden Key Honour Society bounced back after two years of inactivity and the Student Government’s Senate has become a more organized and impactful organization.

“Under her direction, all three organizations are thriving and making an impact on campus and in the community,” said Jonathan Larson, student activities program manager. “She is truly an advocate for change in our region and will be throughout her life.”

After graduating from UM-Dearborn, Jessica wants to advocate for change on a bigger scale. She plans to earn a master’s degree in public policy and then work in the Michigan legislature.

“I would enjoy a career in public service,” she said. “I hope that my contributions to Michigan can be combined with the work of others to turn around the state.”

To that end, Jessica has completed internships with a state representative and the Congressional Management Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Sheryl Edwards, lecturer in political science, has no doubt that Jessica will delve into working to bring about change in the state. In fact, she thinks Jessica has the knowledge and personality to make it to the apex of Michigan government.

“She is a real leader. She is positive, industrious, friendly, well-read and hardworking,” she said. “I expect to see her as the state attorney general or governor one day.”
