An East coaster, Jordan Wohl knew his higher education choice would take him far from his Boston hometown. But he wanted the move to be more than a physical change — he wanted to use his university home as a platform to help him make large strides personally and professionally.
“I made a commitment to move halfway across the country in order to further my education,” he said. “And as soon as I started classes as a freshman, I was determined to become a part of my new community. I joined student organizations, introduced myself to new people and went to as many sporting events as I could.”
Because of that involvement, keeping his resume to a page is a challenge: Jewish Student Organization president, Student Section Committee chair, Democratic Engagement Coalition chair, lacrosse team manager, Student Intramurals coordinator, Civic Leadership Board community organizer, Honors Program member, Michigan Journal cartoonist, Student Government director of athletics, Office for Student Engagement student assistant, orientation leader, intramural broomball team captain, 2018 W.O.W. head counselor and Fieldhouse recreation assistant.
“Jordan is a bridge builder,” said Coordinator for Civic Engagement Brendan Gallagher. “His effectiveness in bringing not just students, but faculty, staff and community members to the table showcases his ability to inspire, to motivate and to create a common purpose.”
His commitment to his campus community earned him the vote for 2018 Homecoming King and accolades that include the 2018 Leadership Synergy Award and 2017 Emerging Student Leader Award. He also was chosen to speak at the Victors for UM-Dearborn celebration in 2018.
Wohl plans to use lessons learned from his college journey as he preps for what’s next. He would like to attend graduate school and build a career in student affairs, saying, “I have had such an incredible experience on campus that I want to spend the rest of my life serving students and helping them in their collegiate experience.”
