Kevin's Story

Kevin Comben is an ideal welcoming figure for University of Michigan-Dearborn. The engineering student and former orientation leader just seems to exude school spirit.

“I am very proud to be a part of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The more I learn about the University, the more I love it,” he said. “That school spirit extends to a sense of duty toward the campus, which has encouraged me to get more involved and help others see UM-Dearborn like I do.”

Through his work with the Office of Admissions and Orientation, Kevin assisted students as they registered for classes, provided campus tours and served as a mentor for the Freshman Wolves Orientation Wilderness trip.

“His personality, drive, passion and commitment was truly showcased during Kevin’s time as an orientation leader,” said Kevin Lewtschanyn, assistant director for orientation programs. “Kevin has made a difference among his peers and incoming students.”

His experience on the wilderness trip led to a desire to have more adventures with his peers. He and fellow student Chris Debs revived the Trek Outdoor Adventure Club and have planned ski, camping and road trips for UM-Dearborn students.

Kevin also is a gifted scholar. He was awarded the William J. Branstrom Freshman Prize for ranking in the upper 5 percent in his class in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, as well as the James B. Angell Scholar award for three consecutive semesters of all A’s.

After graduating, his dream is to secure an electrical engineering management position with a company that makes a difference in the world.

“I know that can sound cliché, but I’ve never been one to sit on the sidelines when there is work to be done,” he said. “I just want to have a job that contributes to making the gears of civilization run smoothly.”
