Leslie King knows how to report a story — whether using broadcast or newsprint. Experienced in Michigan Journal writing and JASS Studio camera work, King often shares the accomplishments of others.
But as the 2018-2019 Convocation speaker, King had the chance to share her own achievements with nearly 3,000 incoming UM-Dearborn Wolverines.
“Having the opportunity to speak to all of the new students and share my experiences was amazing,” she said. “Seeing everyone’s faces as they embarked on a new journey was something I will never forget.”
She talked about serving as a campus diversity ambassador, where she works to foster UM-Dearborn’s inclusive community and to ensure that the college experience includes learning about other cultures and identities. She shared how she’s enjoyed learning from her professors and earning University Honors and a spot on the Dean’s List. And she spoke about the hands-on learning she gained in the JASS Studio, filming projects for courses and additional projects.
“My dream career is to work in production for a major film or television studio and be able to see my work on screen and say, ‘I did that,’” said King, who has worked as a production assistant and with the film crew in the JASS Studio. “All positions help build experience and I want to be an asset in the environment of film/television production.”
