Lia's Story

Lia Fabbri’s personal and professional goal is to make an impact—in the community and beyond.

“I want to dedicate my life to making the world a better, safer, kinder place for women and girls, both at home and around the world,” Fabbri said. “If I am able to leave the world better than I found it, then I will have lived a good life.”

Fabbri is active in campus organizations like Women in Learning and Leadership and Students for Justice in Palestine, advocating for and with people who have concerns that need addressed. And she serves as president of PRIDE, the university’s LGBTQ+ focused student organization.

“In the past year, PRIDE has grown from a handful of members to a network of dozens of deeply connected students,” said Blake Bonkowski, coordinator for LGBTQ+ and inclusion initiatives.  “Lia’s leadership has been critical in growing the organization. She has been a source of incredible knowledge, stability and support to her members, her executive board, and the faculty and staff she has worked with during her time at UM-Dearborn.”

Fabbri also is a member of Tau Sigma National Honor Society, has been named to the Dean’s List multiple times and works a part-time retail job.

In the future, she would like to start a nonprofit dedicated to connecting women and girls to educational opportunities, healthcare services and LGBTQ community resources.

“All of my leadership positions have given me the chance to do what I am most passionate about—using my voice to lift up not only myself, but all marginalized people,” Fabbri said. “In a world that is becoming increasingly divided, I am honored to be in a space that allows me to use my privilege to create opportunities for others to grasp their own senses of empowerment.”
