Meghan's Story

Helping students enhance their campus experience and their future.

It’s a simple concept but it’s a focus of Meghan Lang’s.

Whether she’s organizing a networking event or volunteering for organizations like Habitat Humanity, Meghan strives to make a difference on campus and in the community.

As the past president of UM-Dearborn’s chapter of the American Marketing Association, Meghan tripled the organization’s membership. She continues to plan networking events that connect students to each other and to professionals. She also coordinates company tours, fundraisers and was instrumental in developing Professional Development Week.

Mike Callahan, internship director and lecturer for the College of Business, recognizes the leader Meghan has grown into.

“She has consistently impressed me with her professionalism, flexibility, commitment to results and an overall demeanor that effectively engages other students and helps guide them toward having a positive impact,” he said.

Even with her busy schedule, Meghan spends time volunteering for a variety of organizations and causes. She also spends time in the winter teaching students how to snowboard. Meghan participated in an Alternative Spring Break trip to Tennessee—a self-described eye-opening experience.

Where does she see herself in the future? Meghan hopes to someday lead the marketing department of a nonprofit organization. It’s part of her commitment to the community and to helping others.

“Being an active member in my community is something that is important to me. I do not just want to go to work and come home. It’s important to me that I make a difference and create change,” she explained. “I also feel that working for a nonprofit would be the ultimate challenge for a marketer.”
