Nichole's Story

If you ask Nichole Bowman her motivation for most of her activities her response will be, “I just want to help as many people as possible.” Throughout her time on campus Nichole’s engagement in a variety of activities has demonstrated this passion and made her a Difference Maker.

In addition to excelling as a student and as a student worker, Nichole is active in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, American Red Cross Club and National Society of Leadership and Success.

She also was selected for the Blueprints Leadership Program, where Nichole quickly set herself apart through the creation of her vision to fight a growing human trafficking problem in metro Detroit. Partnering with Vista Maria in their efforts, Nichole is working to raise $3,000 through a series of fundraisers she has designed as a part of the leadership program.

“Her work is a demonstration of what I believe is Nichole’s incredible compassion for all people, which she regularly demonstrates through not only her vision project, but her frequent community service, strong interpersonal relationships and drive to simply make a difference for others,” said Amy Finley, assistant director of civic engagement.

Nichole says her most defining moment at UM-Dearborn was volunteering in Cleveland during Alternative Spring Break. The experience working with fellow UM-Dearborn students and numerous non-profit organizations was inspiring and helped her realize the difference that she can make in the community.

Her desire to make a difference and commitment to helping others will help her excel with her plans to pursue medicine, specifically cancer research and infectious diseases, following graduation.

About being a Difference Maker, Nichole said, “To be a Difference Maker, you don’t have to be a superhero. Being a Difference Maker is about having an impact in one person’s life for the better.”
