What makes you a Difference Maker?
My willingness to help others and move ahead together gives me strength and motivation to work hard and make a difference in the life of people. I believe that as an engineer my role is not limited to a laboratory or an office to have a financially comfortable future, but it’s extended to create a positive impact on the society. I reach out to people to identify their problems and strive to think of ways to apply my knowledge and come up with a solution to make their life easier. I believe that my tireless efforts to bring happiness into other’s lives, and in this one life, touch thousands of souls, harbors me another shore. Inspiring people to get involved in community services and experience the joy of giving makes me a Difference Maker.
Highlight your campus achievements:
On campus, UM-Dearborn has given me lots of opportunity to grow. The university granted my project complete financial support, following which I started working in WSSP lab on Driver Drowsiness Detection System.
At UM-Dearborn, I grabbed the opportunity to participate in as many technical clubs as possible to broaden my area of expertise.
I’m a member of:
Technical clubs like Intelligent Systems Club (Best teammates/friends to work with) and Formulae SAE
Leadership programs like Wolverine Cohort Program (deals with developing leadership skills and 50+hours of community service) and Diversity Ambassador (valuing and cheering diversity on campus)
In Talent Gateway, I’ve taken challenges to improve soft skills and personality development, and attended almost all possible events on campus.
I’m contesting as a senator for student government and have also attended Alternative Spring Break to help communities grow.
Highlight your leadership experiences both on and off campus:
On campus I’m contesting for the position of a senator for Student Government. I’m keen on bringing small changes—which would have a big impact—and which would prove to be a win-win situation for the management and students both. I’ve been a site leader for community services. Apart from this, during undergrad, I’d founded an automotive club and donned various hats such as that of president, team captain, event designer and finance associate. I’d designed each and every aspect of the club from membership rules to finance and operation regulations. The goal of this club was to design an all-terrain vehicle to participate in a national level competition. The club proudly boasted of 80 members.
What is your dream career and/or long term life goal?
I strongly believe in interdisciplinary studies. I like to learn from discipline and keep increasing my scope of knowledge; I think knowledge of different disciplines allows one to think from different perspectives. It’s the result of interdisciplinary studies that’s revolutionized the way surgeries are done. We’ve come a long way from scissors and stitches to lasers.
I like to do challenging jobs with innovative thinking and finding simple solutions to complex problems. I foresee myself in the automotive industry at a position where I can bring revolution in mobility, which would be integrated with safety, intelligence and eco-friendly nature. My aim is to bring significant contribution to my field.
What was your most defining moment at UM-Dearborn?
At UM Dearborn, I’ve had many defining moments; it’s a place where you’re able to grow. UM-Dearborn gives you great exposure and proves unity and diversity. I was so excited when I found out about the 130-plus student organizations on campus. The first meeting I attended, even before my first day of college, was the an Intelligence Systems Club (ISC) meeting. I ended up joining and started working on mechanical aspects for the club. The welcoming gesture of the team and me believing in my own capabilities is one of my most cherished memories at UM-Dearborn. Attaining the financial support for the project—which I’d dreamt about since high school—is one of my most defining moments, too. The best experience I’ve had was at Alternative Spring Break. Serving the community and having the satisfaction of helping was a life-enriching experience.
