Rebecca Wilczak's active in the UM-Dearborn community as not only a mathematics scholar and gifted researcher, but also as a supporter of women’s rights. Rebecca served as co-chair of the organization Women in Learning and Leadership, and has also organized a mentoring program for three groups of 20 pre-teen girls at the Phoenix Multicultural Academy in Detroit.

This high achiever has been a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Association of Women in Mathematics, as well as the Society of Physics Students.

As a student researcher, Rebecca studied the new 16-inch telescope at the UM-Dearborn Observatory and then wrote the operations manual. She has led open houses of the observatory, given tours, and helped students in astronomy courses.

Her awards and achievements include receiving the Chancellor’s Medallion, being chosen as a UM-Dearborn Honors Scholar for both Mathematics and Physics, and receiving both the Dean’s Scholarship and Department of Mathematics Scholarship, and she is also a James B. Angell Scholar.

She was named Outstanding Student in Physics, received University Honors, and has been on the Dean’s List for six consecutive semesters.

Rebecca has worked as a news editor for The Michigan Journal and also has a reading and speaking knowledge of Russian.
