Rene Antinossi's Story

What makes you a Difference Maker?

My parents taught me to believe that the greatest gift we have is what we give to others. Sharing my passion and commitment to social justice with my classmates at UM-Dearborn has affirmed that I am not alone in my values and that my efforts matter and make a difference. In return, I hope that I have made a difference by validating for others the value and importance of their contribution.

Tell us about your leadership experience.

I've learned that while leadership can be rewarding, it can also be challenging and uncomfortable. On-campus, my leadership has meant acting as a positive role model, demonstrating academic integrity, respecting other students' views and ideas, and pushing myself to understand other perspectives more deeply. Off-campus, my leadership has meant speaking up and advocating for others from a position of responsibility in my job and my commitment to the greater community.

What is your dream career or goal?

I have a greater depth of life experience than most students and appreciate that my long term may be different from others. Considering my life experience, my goals are to continue to grow as an advocate for social justice, seek out opportunities to share my skills and abilities with the community, and advocate for equity and accessibility in education for all.

What is your most defining moment?

My cohorts in the MPA program came from varied career paths that included education, healthcare, law enforcement, criminal justice, government, and non-profit organizations. Despite their diverse careers, what I saw in common with them was a deep belief in the ideal of service to others. Their experiences demonstrated to me a selfless passion, commitment, and dedication to the needs and care of others. Their devotion and faithfulness to what they saw as their "life calling" inspired and strengthened my resolve to do the same.
