What makes you a Difference Maker? 

There are many leaders on our campus; the difference between a leader and a Difference Maker is the way in which they lead. I have always tried to lead selflessly. My parents always taught me to give without expecting anything in return and I’ve tried to apply that to my leadership style. I’ve never once taken on a position or leadership role for the title or line on my resume. I care so deeply about our university and community and have committed a great deal of my time to try to help make us as great as we can be. I care about the happiness and success of my fellow students and encouraging the success of others has always been my goal as a leader. As I lead and help those around me I feel myself growing and achieving in unexpected and unimaginable ways. I am a Difference Maker because I lead selflessly, with my community at the heart of all my choices and actions.

Campus Achievements: 

At the University of Michigan–Dearborn, I have achieved in academics, and I have been recognized through the organizations that I have been a part of. I was an Emerging Greek Leader award recipient during the 2014/2015 academic year, and a recipient of an Emerging Leader Certificate at the 2015 Student Leadership Awards. In addition, I have been on the Dean’s List for multiple semesters through my college career. I was recently selected by College of Business professors to participate in the National Case Competition on Supply Chain Management as the team’s financial analyst. I am working alongside three supply chain management students and will be representing UM–Dearborn at the University of Minnesota the beginning of April.

Leadership Experiences: 

During my time at UM–Dearborn I have had the honor of holding multiple leadership positions in organizations. During my sophomore year I served as the Director of Finance for my sorority, Panhellenic Junior Delegate for my sorority, and Treasurer for UMD Wish Makers (affiliated with Make-A-Wish Foundation). Currently, I hold the position of Chapter President. As president I’ve made it my goal to empower the chapter to serve the community. When the 53 women in my chapter work together towards a common goal they accomplish so much. Through amazing participation in MLK day of service, blanket making for Project Linus, service themed chapter meetings, and successful philanthropy events my sisters inspire me to continue to lead. My proudest moments as a leader have been seeing my chapter work as a unit to create change. Serving as the President of my organization has taught me so much about the characteristics a good leader must have, but it has also taught me that in order to be a leader you do not have to have a title or position. Along with serving in leadership positions, I try to be a leader in my everyday life. I work hard to be a leader in the classroom, as a general member in organizations, and at work. I’ve made it a habit to always act as a leader by being honest, committed, and innovative.

What is your Dream Career? 

My long term career goal is to be working in corporate finance in an analyst role. I am passionate about finance and the way in which numbers tell a story, if organized and analyzed in the correct way. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and you can only plan for the future so much. Life is unpredictable but by combining passion and hard work anything is possible and things always fall into place. Success to me would be working for a company whose values align with my personal values, alongside coworkers who are intelligent, innovative, and honest. Honesty is very important to me in the workplace, and as a financial analyst I want to be honest about problems and embrace them. I see problems as gateways to opportunity.

What was a Defining Moment at UM-Dearborn? 

It’s hard to pinpoint the single most defining moment in my college career thus far. Rather, I see my journey as a series of defining moments that have made me who I am today. My journey at UM-Dearborn has been so dynamic and the growth that I’ve experienced is remarkable. If I were to choose one defining moment it would be my sorority’s involvement in MLK day of service this year. Not only was the level of involvement more than I expected, the women were committed and excited about what the day had to offer. That day, we all realized how powerful we are when we work together. As a leader, nothing feels better than seeing those around me succeed and grow.
