What makes you a Difference Maker?
A Difference Maker is someone who understands the impact that they have while contributing to our campus community in numerous ways. In addition to a Difference Maker's leadership and integrity, they form UM-Dearborn into the shape of a community that everyone can thrive in. I fit this definition in a variety of ways. Not only has my experiences as a Lead DUCC (Diverse Understanding Creating Community) Mentor allowed me to directly impact other students and their environments, but so have my experiences as an Orientation Leader and a Talent Ambassador. All three of those experiences have allowed me to directly affect the growth, choices, and positivity of my peers while providing me the opportunity to display my version of leadership.
Tell us about your leadership experience.
On campus, my leadership experiences are best highlighted by my involvement with Orientation, as being an Orientation leader required me to be willing to learn and understand new people on a daily basis, teach and discuss many of my experiences and the benefits of coming to the University of Michigan-Dearborn, while allowing everyone to trust me and enjoy their first experience at the University. As a Talent Ambassador, I have been able to instruct and provide a new perspective for students completing challenges in the Talent Gateway. Thus, helping them build skills that will transform their personal, academic, and professional future. As a Talent Ambassador and Lead DUCC Mentor, during events I have been able to lead events, allowing people to have a great time while allowing them to gain something skills that will impact their future outside of the classroom. (Networking events and such) Off campus, I displayed my leadership while being one of the site leaders for Alternative Breaks in Cincinnati. During that week, I was the person that everyone was able to trust to keep us on track, meals planned in advance, trusted with money, and ensuring everyone would be able to get the most out of their experience. Also, at the Union, I have been honored to being a Resident Advisor and I was able to be a trusted resource for any students with questions or concerns.
What is your dream career or goal?
My dream career is to be a chief security officer or advisor, where I will be trusted and in charge of the security choices within an organization. However, my long-term life goal is to become a teacher that can inspire and help instruct students (not completely sure of the age group) by sharing some of my experiences bust most importantly my knowledge. Regardless of how long it will take for me to achieve that goal, I strive to be a teacher that could inspire all students and help them find a path in life that they would be proud of.
