A doctoral student at UM-Dearborn in the School of Education, Truman is examining how community organizations can impact the goals and aims of educational instruction. For years, Truman has been demonstrating his dedication to helping rebuild people’s lives through his professional, community and academic work. As president of DEXDesign Associates, Inc., he and his team specialize in organizational and community/economic development that has secured more than $658 million in resources for various nonprofit and governmental entities.
Academically, Truman has earned a Master of Interdisciplinary Studies in Urban Planning and Education (1997), a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (1993), and a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Service Agency Administration (1995) from Wayne State University. While at WSU, he coordinated activities for Delta Sigma Pi, Professional Business Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity, Inc., the United Negro College Fund, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He has received the Who’s Who in Black Detroit Entrepreneur Award (2009), the Spirit of Detroit Award (2001), and the WSU Alumni Academic Achievement Award (1999).
