Uzma Anwar has been active on campus since she arrived at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She is an activist for many causes and spends time helping others to understand why they matter. 

“You would be hard pressed to find many students who are as thoughtful, consistent, passionate, and service-minded as Uzma,” said Kristin McDonough, coordinator for Greek Life. “At the Veteran’s Dinner, Uzma helped to raise thousands of dollars to benefit local veterans, particularly those who are homeless. For her the event was not about the money raised, but about opening our minds to the injustices that surround us and our hearts to the men and women who selflessly served our country.”

Working with organizations on campus helps her continue toward her lifelong commitment to change. 

“My life goal is to make a positive difference, however small, in the lives of people,” Uzma said. “I want to make the world a better place for the people who live here now, and for future generations. I want to spend my life serving humanity.”

While Uzma has had many mentors and peers that she has looked up to on campus, one woman stands out as an inspiration for her future ambitions. 

“Dr. Tracy Hall’s positive energy and demeanor is incredibly inspiring to me, and her faith in humanity is contagious,” Uzma said. “She has believed in me and my ability to succeed, in times when I could not believe in myself. She has taught me that no matter what, I have the strength to keep moving forward and do great things. Without her belief in me, I do not know if I would be where I am today.”
